U18 Premier Defeated In A Close One With Giants
Sheffield Elite U18 Prem went into this game knowing it would be there toughest test yet and one that they would have to be at their best for to come away with a win. Manchester Giants have been steam rolling teams, winning games comfortably by large margins so this was sure to be a tough game.
The 1st quarter made it clear that defence was going to be a major factor with both sides limiting each others scoring and the score standing at 7-6 to Giants after 5 mins. Giants continued to pack the paint and frustrate Sheffield Elite's big men and used this to go on a run to finish the quarter 14-8. The 2nd quarter would continue much in the same fashion with both sides playing excellent defence, going into half time down 5 at 26-21.
Manchester came out with a clear intension to ramp up the pressure pushing the lead out, winning the quarter 19-10 and going into the final quarter with 45-31 lead. This pressure continued through the 4th quarter guards Miklos Zalavari and Luke Baldwin were key to breaking this. Michael Aleksandrov had been good from the free throw all game and this, coupled with some increase in defensive intensity, would help Sheffield mount a comeback and tie the game.
Unfortunately it was to be for the spirited Sheffield Elite team this week but there was a lot of positives to take from the game. Manchester would run out winner, 67-55.
Miklos Zalavari led the way with 17 points followed Michael Aleksandrov with 8 points and 12 rebounds.
