U16 Premier Fall Short Against Manchester Magic
Going up against Magic is always set to be a tough task, currently sitting at the top of the U16 Northern Premier as the only undefeated team in the league, Sheffield were in for a battle. Both teams were locked in defensively to start the game which led to a low scoring 4-8 score in Manchester’s favour after 7 minutes of play but after a few turnovers and lapses on defence, magic capitalised getting out on the break and knocking down a few three’s in short succession ending the first quarter 20-6. Sheffield continued to struggle offensively due to Manchester's aggressive defensive pressure as well as allowing far too many offensive rebounds leading to second chance points. The first half ended 44-18. After some adjustments made at the half by Coach Tom Morey, Sheffield showed great fight and improved the rebounding on the defensive end, limiting magic to 1 shot possessions and started to click offensively winning the quarter 20-13. Elite continued the same fight in the fourth, playing hard to the end and narrowly losing the 4th quarter 15-17 but winning the second half 35-32. Despite the loss, the young Elite team can be proud of the second half performance and the resilience shown to keep playing hard to the final buzzer.
14 year olds Ikenna Alisi and Raphael Taylor led with 18 Points & 12 Points respectively and Robbie Oliver added 10.
