Sheffield Elite Fall Short In OT Thriller
Tameside who are were undefeated at 4-0 to start the year showed why they are front runners in the league after some hot shooting in the 1st quarter & Sheffield showing poor execution on offence & came out flat on defence ending Q1 down 25-12.
After some adjustments to the personnel on court & a constructive end of quarter talk, Elite started to mount a comeback winning the second quarter 20-14 led by Tom Morey with 10 points in the quarter going into half time down 32-39.
The 3rd quarter was a back and forth game ending 17-17 with the score going into the 4th with Elite still down 7 at 49-56.
The 4th quarter saw young guard Miklos Zalavari step up with 11 points in the quarter & with Sheffield coming back strong, they ended up down 2 & with 10 seconds to go after a timeout. Elite executed the play to perfection getting a drive and a dump off pass to Luke Baldwin with a clutch finish at the basket to tie the game sending the game to Overtime 72-72.
Overtime was close and came down to the dying seconds but ultimately Tamesides experience came out on top with an 82-80 win moving their record to 5-0.
Despite the loss, the young Sheffield team showed lots of positive signs that they can compete with the best in the league & will be hungry to get the win when they face Tameside away later on in the season.
