End Of The Road For U16 Premier In National Cup
After a close 4 point loss to Derby in the league a few weeks prior, Sheffield were hungry to redeem themselves and gave it everything they had. In a very different game to the matchup in the league, Sheffield were without key player & starter, Isaac Daley and Derby had added a second 6 Foot 6 Forward who led all scorers with 15 points and made finishing around the rim in the half court difficult with his shot blocking presence. Despite being physically outmatched vs derbys forwards, Elite kept themselves in the game with tough rebounding and sharing the ball well offensively with Raphael Taylor being the beneficiary of sheffields ball movement knocking down back to back 3’s to end the 1st quarter down 15-11. With Derby's size and defence collapsing the paint, Elite struggled to find open lanes at the basket and had a poor spell of outside shots not falling, ending the first half down 9 32-23. After some of Elite’s forwards got into some foul trouble, Derby began to pull away even more in the 3rd, winning the quarter 24-14. Despite being down 19 to start the 4th, Elite showed toughness with some aggressive full court pressure, forcing derby into turnovers and winning the 4th 21-13 and got the game down to 8 in the final minute but after some late fouls and made free throws from derby, the game ended 70-58.
Captain Robbie Oliver led with 14 Points, Raphael Taylor had 10 and Kobe Leung added 8.
