U14's Don't Let The Phoenix Rise
After a fantastic win against Dreamchasers last week, Sheffield Elite continued their unbeaten streak in the North II conference with a dominant 97-37 victory over Grimsby Phoenix. This win improves Sheffield Elite's record to 5-0, maintaining their position as the team to beat in the league.
The key to Sheffield’s success was their high-powered offense, which ran primarily through their effective motion offense. Amen Benako was the standout performer, finishing as the team’s leading scorer with 22 points. His offensive contributions were complemented by an outstanding defensive effort, as he played a pivotal role in limiting Grimsby’s top scorer to a quiet game.
Ozer Arel also had an impressive outing, contributing 18 points while showcasing his playmaking ability with several assists, helping to keep the offense fluid. Dylan Saunders added 17 points, using his speed to capitalize on fast-break opportunities and finishing strong at the rim, which proved to be a key advantage in transition.
Ben Heggie made an encouraging return to action, scoring 14 points and knocking down two three-pointers after missing three weeks due to injury. His quick recovery and strong performance showed his resilience and ability to bounce back after time off the court.
While the top scorers stood out, the team’s success was also built on the contributions of players who played critical roles in other aspects of the game. Leon and Ethan were vital on the boards, collecting crucial rebounds to limit Grimsby’s second-chance opportunities. James and Caleb excelled in ball movement, finding open teammates and creating high-quality scoring chances. Josh and Meson did a fantastic job at the point guard position, running the offense, setting up plays, and making smart decisions as the defense adjusted to Sheffield's offensive flow. Santiago also brought high energy and intensity, anchoring the defense with his hustle and effort.
Overall, it was a well-rounded team performance that demonstrated Sheffield Elite’s depth and versatility. With the win, they continue to assert their dominance in the North II conference, remaining undefeated and steadily progressing toward their ultimate goal of promotion.
