Big Win as U18 Tame Wildcats
Buoyed by a great week of practice Sheffield Elite U18 Premier squad were ready to show they hadn't hit top gear yet and had much more to show. They would start the weekend away to Northern Premier newcomers Nottingham Wildcats.
The quarter started at a high pace for Sheffield forcing turnovers from the Nottingham based side and capitlising on these mistakes, jumping out to a 14-0 lead before Nottingham made their first shot of the game. Sheffield were able to ring the changes earlier, with Coach Appleyard having the round of 16 cup game the next day in the back of his mind, and Sheffield finished the quarter with 4 of the starters getting a break early. Devon Williams, Ethan Galloway, O'Daniel Creary, Dylan McCormack and Kelvin Talbot finished the quarter strong taking a 27-12 lead into the 2nd quarter.
Harry Butler and Alex Munier checked into the game to start the quarter with both looking to step up on previous performances. Harry settled into the game quickly knocking down a shot from the perimeter and showing composure on the ball. Alex would also show great signs of improvement coming into the game and impacted positively straight away. Nottingham also stepped up the pressure, only losing this quarter by 4, 19-15. Sheffield would take a 46-27 lead into the locker room at half time.
Elite started the 2nd half in the exactly the same way, displaying some great offensive work and scoring 30 points for the quarter, including a poster dunk from athletic big man Kelvin Talbot. Unfortunately, defensively they were not as effective allowing 21 points for Nottingham but still managing to stretch out the lead to 76-48.
Alex Munier continued to show the levels he is capable of with some excellent defence leading to 9 quick points from defensive pressure and steals with Ethan Galloway also proving to be very strong defensively. Once again, Sheffield would win the quarter comfortably and running out winners, 100-65.
Alex Munier would lead the scoring for Sheffield with 19 points, 3 steals and 4 rebounds. Kelvin Talbot contributed another double-double with 15 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks, whilst TJ Prado also put up 15 points.
