Sheffield Elite Downed By Sco
With 3 games still left to play before the Christmas break the U18 team and no real time to rest as they travelled away to Myerscough 3 days after their win against Derby. Sheffield knew they would have to be at their best to come away with a win, particularly as they were without lead guard Miklos Zalavari who picked up an ankle injury the week before.
The game started out very cagey with both teams looking to make a stand defensively to start the game, which set the tone for a low scoring encounter with some good defence on display from both sides. TJ Prado and Vermon Mabou used their athleticism as size to finish inside for Sheffield and George Andrews added 6 from the perimeter. Harry Butler, now settling into the team, connected on a 3 to leave Sheffield up 1, 17-18, at the end of the 1st.
Some adjustments from Sheffield defensively meant they started the quarter with 2 stops and a breakaway finish for Alex Munier. Kelvin Talbot would continue to be a thorn in Myerscough's side with some athletic finishes around the basket, scoring 7 points in the quarter, as well as 2 from Luke Baldwin. Despite this, Myerscough were able to keep themselves in the game with Sheffield entering half time with the 1 point advantage still intact, 31-32.
Myerscough came out in the 2nd half the fresher of the 2 teams and were able to go on a run, with Sheffield only picking up points from the free throw line. With only 8 points scored in the quarter, 6 of these being from the line, Sheffield found themselves behind 43-40.
Myerscough would continue to keep the pressure on Sheffield in the final quarter as they made a final push to win the game and this proved to much for Elite. A strong end to the game from TJ Prado meant Sheffield kept the score close but lost by 8, 57-49.
TJ Prado was top scorer for Sheffield Elite with 15 points and 2 assists, whilst Kelvin Talbot contributed another double double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
